My Family Vacation

Two years ago, my family went on a vacation to Maine.  We went because we have extended family living there that I had never met before. My family rented a house on Damariscotta Lake.  Although we mainly stayed on the lake, we also went to downtown Damariscotta. I stayed there for a week in all.

                  Meeting these “Mainiac” family members was like meeting a group of friendly aliens.   They eat different things than we do. They mainly eat sea food like lobster. They have a special soda called Moxie that I think tastes like gasoline, but everyone there loves. Their language is different too. Every word they say ends with the “ah”. I was made fun of a lot though because of my southern accent that they weren’t used to. I guess they thought I was somewhat alien too.

The first day all we did was sit around the house because we were tired from what seemed like a million hour drive the day before. My Uncle Brian let us borrow his boat so we went out on the lake and did some wake boarding later in the day. This was the first time I had ever done it so at first I was terrible. After a little while I got the hang of it and actually got pretty good.  By the time we were finished on the lake it was late so all we did was eat so left over chicken then go to sleep.

                  The second day I met the first cousin Ethan for the first time. I was a little nervous but he ended up being really chill and we had a good time. He was so good he was basically pro at wake boarding so he taught me how to do some things like make hard turns and jump. Then we did some fishing late in the afternoon. We caught a thousand of these small fish. Ethan was really cool and I’m glad I could meet him.

                  The third day I met two more cousins. They were sisters named Olivia and Emily who were pretty cool to. I tried to get them to wake board but they were hopelessly bad at it so we finally gave up. They ended up just sticking to tubing which they were pro at cause all you have to do is sit on it. We had brought some fireworks so later that night once it got dark we lite the off. That was pretty awesome.

                  A day went buy that we didn’t do much just swam in the lake and went out on the boat. But on the fifth day I got to meet even more family. This time it was my cousin Blake. He was a bit of a redneck. He liked fishing a lot. We ended fishing for most of the day both on the dock and out on the boat. He talked about fishing constantly. Blake’s dad was actually a professional wake boarder and water skier. He could tricks that I’ve never even seen before. He taught me how to do some cool stuff. But I really liked Blake we had a good time that day.

                  On Saturday we went into town because everyone was bored at the lake house. We went to a few stores then got food at this seafood restaurant that literally caught your food in the ocean basically minutes before you ate it. It tasted really good. Then we came home and went out on the boat one last time before it got dark. The day ended up being more fun than expected.

                  On the last day we had a cook were all the family members from the area came over to our lake house. It was really fun because every single cousin that I had met was there. We had trick competitions on the wakeboard and did some tubing for Olivia and Emily because they definitely hadn’t gotten any better. We had pretty good game of football later in the day. That night I grilled up some burgers for dinner and they ended up being really good. We all had a good time.

                  This trip was important to my life in many ways. I got to meet new family I never had before. I learned new things like wakeboarding and how to drive a boat. I also got to visit new places. Not only did I got to Maine for the first time but to get there I had to go through New York, New Jersey, Maryland and many other states. Overall it was a great trip that was very important to my life that I will never forget.
