Faris I

Ms. Brown, Just Why?

It was the night before; I was deciding whether to go to Richmond the next day to watch the girls’ volleyball game. My parents were fine with it so I texted my friend, Andy to see if he was going, he said he was so I was ready to go the next day; my form signed and my money ready. I came to school and found out his parents decided last minute that they didn’t want him to go so I decided not to go either. I trashed the form and texted my mom to tell her I wasn’t going.
I was kind of regretting the decision over the course of the day because I could have gotten out early from school and would have had fun watching the game. Finally the day ended and I went out to the front of the school like I usually do to get ready to walk home until I saw Andy with some other of my friends. I started talking to them and they said they wanted to go play soccer at the Lower 40. They invited me and we walked down there, some of them had to go get there stuff so I called my mom to go bring my bag with my cleats and ball. She finally came with my stuff and said to come home since I had a lot of homework that day, I refused. She left and I told her to come pick me up around six.
Finally everyone came back with their stuff and we started playing. It was a rough field and isn’t really meant for soccer but we had played there before and it was fine. We had been playing 3 on 3 for about an hour by then until I went running with ball and approached the other team. While running, I felt a snap and immediately fell to the ground and started yelling. I concluded that I had to go to the doctor because I thought I had broken my leg. My friend said that he tripped me on accident and I had tripped onto the ball. One of my other friends, Bennett, brought me his phone so that I could call my mom. I called her and told her that I needed to go to the doctor and that I had broken my leg. I was in severe pain and one funny thing I remember is one of my friends, Robbie, said “You’re lying” because he thought I had fell just to get the foul. Once my mom got there my friends picked me up and carried me over to the parking lot. I got into the back seat of my car lying down and the pain was getting even worse.
My mom drove me to the doctor and I was in the most pain I had ever been in my life. We got to the emergency room and the wait was very long. My dad got there and they gave me pain medication. After a long 4 hours they told me I had sprained my ankle and I had to have crutches for about a month and a half. I came home and the pain was still there. I knew that I couldn’t tolerate the pain at school the next day so I decided not to go. A lot of my friends were texting me to see if I was ok. I couldn’t go to school for about 3 days so I rested at home. When I went to school the next week I had to get used to getting around the school on crutches.
Over the month I was really bored since I couldn’t really do anything. The worst part about it was that I couldn’t go to any of the soccer open gyms over this time. I finally got off of crutches about 2 months later and they told me I had to wear a brace for the next 6 months. I could finally go to open gyms but I waited about 2 weeks because I couldn’t run that well. After those 2 weeks I started going to the open gyms and it was very hard for me to run with all the pain but I still did. Finally tryouts came and I was scared that I wouldn’t make the team because of my injury but the coaches didn’t think that, I had made the team. It’s been about a month since tryouts and I still have a little pain when I play but I can deal with it.
I learned that you should never give up if you want to accomplish something. If you want to be successful with something don’t let anything stop you. My injury has actually taught me more than it has affected me in a negative way.
