Pet Peeve Problems
A pet peeve can be a certain word,
phrase, or habit that rubs someone the wrong way. One of my pet peeves that drives me crazy is
when someone asks another person a question and the person replies with a long
response that does not answer the question.
Many times when people do this they reply to a question with lots of
information but they never answer the question asked. Sometimes this works out because there is
enough information in their answer to infer the answer based on the reply that
they gave, but most of the time the answer given is so far from the correct
answer or the answer does not have much information in it so it is impossible
to figure out the answer to the question asked.
When people don’t answer the question that someone asked them correcting
or they don’t answer with enough information, it can be very frustrating,
confusing, and annoying.
Having people not answer the
question asked is a very big issue. Sometimes the answer to the question asked has
valuable information in it, but if the person answering the question does not
answer it correctly then the information cannot be used.
Student One said, “Do you have any
ideas for the final project that we have to do about horses?”
Student Two replied, “We have to
make a diagram for the project.”
Student One said, “Yeah, but do you
have any ideas for what we should do to present the diagram?”
Student Two said, “We need to make a
diagram to present the project.”
This example shows that when people
don’t answer a question just as they hear it then it can cause confusion and
can be frustrating. Another example of
how this can be a big issue is when people are too broad with their
answers. An example of this would be is
someone asked where something is and another person replies that it is “down
there.” This tells you that it is
somewhere “down there”, but it does not give specific enough details to be able
to find where the object is. There are
many more examples of how someone not answering a question accurately or
specifically can be an issue.
When people do not answer questions
the right way or they try to avoid the answer it can have many different
effects on people. When someone does
this to me it can frustrate me because it means that I have to ask the question
again or I have to pretend that they answered my question and try to figure out
the answer myself. Another way this can
make me feel is annoyed because I didn’t get the information that I wanted to
know. This issue can also make me feel
confused. Most of the time when this
problem happens to me I get confused because I am not sure if the other person
heard my question correctly and decided that they didn’t want to answer it
correctly or if they didn’t hear my question correctly so they answered what
they thought that they heard or if they didn’t answer for some other reason
that I cannot think of. There are many
other reactions to this issue and depending on whom the person affected by this
pet peeve is there could be a variety of responses.
There are many examples of people
not answering the question asked to them in the best possible way in everyone’s
day-to-day life. An example of people
that do this in everyday life is politicians.
Sometimes politicians like to avoid certain topics so they don’t answer
the question asked exactly and they steer the conversation in the direction
that they want it to go. This problem
can occur in many other situations and other environments but that does not
mean that it is less of a problem.
This concern of people incorrectly
answering people’s question could have come from a variety of situations. This issue could have been started when
people tried to avoid answering a question because they did not want the person
asking the question to know the information that they would receive in the
answer so they purposely did not answer the question asked instead they
answered a question similar to the one asked to avoid the topic. If this is how this problem was started then
it could have continued because people became so used to avoiding topics and
dancing around the answer to a question that when they are asked a simple
question that they know the answer to and are willing to reply they
unintentionally answer in a way that avoids the straight-forward answer because
they are so used to replying to questions incorrectly. This issue may not have an official origin
but there are many ways that this problem could have started.
There are lots of possible solutions
to the issue of people answering questions with incorrect or vague
answers. One way that this problem can
disappear is if people remember how it made them feel when someone didn’t
answer their question to the best of their ability so that when they are
answering other people’s questions they will always answer the best that they
can. Another way this issue can be
solved is if people always answer the question that they are asked and they
don’t try to answer a question similar to the one asked to get out of talking
about a certain subject or because it is easier to answer the other
question. A third possible solution to
this concern is if people realize how annoying and unnecessary it is to
incorrectly answer a question or to avoid answering a question then they will
be less likely to do it to other people.
These are some possible solutions to this issue that everyone can do
every day to help resolve this problem.
Whether a person didn’t hear the
question asked to them or they just decided that they didn’t want to answer
that question, whenever people incorrectly answer a question it is very
annoying, confusing, and frustrating.
