The Most Exciting Day of School Ever

I woke up and was immediately excited for the day ahead of me.  I had been looking forward to this day for quite some time now, and it had finally arrived.  The first day of school may not be so enjoyable now, but the first day of Kindergarten was electrifying to me.  Getting up and waiting for the big yellow bus to come up my street and take me to school, as opposed to my mom driving me to preschool.  I never knew that someday I would be dreading seeing the bus coming to pick me up, because right then and there, I couldn’t hardly wait another minute.
Once I had gotten dressed, eaten breakfast, brushed my teeth, and taken a few pictures as well, I was finally ready to go to school.  I of course had the fear of older kids picking on me and what not, but I also had my sister who could help me get through the bus ride to and from school.  When I finally saw the bus coming up my street I started to get butterflies in my stomach with how anxious and nervous I was feeling.  Getting to walk into the enormous bus and sit in a seat without seatbelts made me feel like a rebel at the time.  I loved the ride to school and when we got to school I was ready to go to class.
Getting off the bus and looking at the school, I thought the school looked really big and intimidating, but once I got inside the school it was awesome.  There were teachers and students everywhere, with hallways and staircases all throughout the school.  I found it interesting that you could walk straight to your class without parents or teachers walking with you to your class.  The freedom I felt was outstanding.
Eventually, I made it to my Kindergarten class and was surprised by the way it looked.  There were bean bags in one corner with books and puzzles all around, cubbies with everyone’s name on them, there were colorful decorations all over the walls, games and toys were all over the middle of the floor, and a huge bookcase with what seemed like thousands of books.  My teacher was very welcoming and kind as she greeted everyone that walked in the door saying things like, “Great to have you here,” or “Nice to see you again.”  Also, there was a hallway that leads into another Kindergarten class with a bathroom in the middle for both classes to use, along with a waiting chair outside to sit on.  Our cubbies had a name tag with each person’s name on it, a different animal for each person (mine being a tiger), and colorful designs and pictures all around it.  There was also a place to put your backpack in with a shelf for your towel for naptime, which I greatly miss looking back.
When class actually started we all sat in a big circle to introduce ourselves and say something interesting about ourselves.  After everyone had introduced themselves we got a seating chart and took our seats.  Up until lunch, we read books and played with board games and toys.  Going to lunch was fun being able to go to the cafeteria and eat with all my classmates.  After lunch we got to either take a thirty minute nap or read a book.  Back then nap time wasn’t really needed; everyone talked, giggled, or moved around, even though in high school people would love to have a nap.  Another thing we did during school was getting to go play outside on the playground during recess.  This is what every kid dreams of when in elementary school.  Getting to play tag, go on the swings, go down the slide, or whatever made you happy.  When school was almost over we packed up and got ready to go home.
The bus ride home was just as fun as the one going to school and when I got home I couldn’t wait to tell my parents how it went.  When I got home I heard what would become a very annoying question from my mom.  “How was school today?”  Although I enjoyed the question very much the first time she asked me.  I told my mom everything I did and how much I liked it and couldn’t wait to go tomorrow.  The very next day I repeated practically the same exact process and loved it just the same.  Looking back now I find it hard to believe that I could’ve been that excited for school even though I personally know that I did.
