There are many habits that we humans have which must be
forgotten. However, the most important one we need to get rid of is “disorganization”.
There are many instances where the being
unorganized is just not acceptable. Some of these moments are when it comes to
school folders/binders, houses where
nothing is in a logical place, and people putting stuff back on random shelves
in stores (like a bag of chips placed in a box of screw drivers because someone
didn’t want it anymore).
What disorganized people don’t know is that there are many
people, like me, who look at stuff and if a small little thing is misplaced,
they rage. When people leave things unorganized, I must organize it and if I am
not allowed to, I feel like a little part of me has blown-up.
I have been fortunate to travel to many countries that many
people can go to witness the chaos that comes from not being organized. Some
countries have very little organization everywhere like a lack of respect for
obeying traffic rules. As a result, the streets become crowded and all you hear
are the honking horns and ringing bells. There is yelling which sometimes is
loud enough to give a headache. In this chaos, one cannot think clearly. Thankfully,
this happens in extreme cases but if we don’t start to organize, this might
happen more often.
More common examples of
disorganization that affect our lives are messy folders, random icons on
desktops, and clothes shoved into closets randomly. Messy folders affect us
because if we have an assignment that is due that day, we most likely just
shoved it into a folder and when we need it, we have to take about 10 minutes
to look through a bunch of folders. Random desktop icons make us spend a couple
of minutes to look for something when you can simply go to a location that has
all the useless things like word documents that don’t need to be on the
desktop. Finally, many people have trouble finding what to wear. This is
usually because we don’t spend time putting cloths in a closet in a particular
order. We just look for a hanger, put the piece of clothing on it, and push
other clothes away to make room for the new one. Instead, we can put collared
shirts in one area of a closet, long sleeve shirts in another etc.
The history of disorganization is not very well known. It
has always been a habit of humans to be lazy and leave stuff laying around
thinking that they will come back and put it in the right place later. Then,
when people started having even more activities to do, they began to feel
rushed and the few people who actually organized once in a while, stopped doing
that. Eventually, the world turned out how it is now where most of the world does
not organize and a few of us spend all our time organizing everyone else’s
stuff.
There are many things we can do to prevent the chaos
mentioned earlier. For one, we can take a couple minutes of our lives when in a
store to put something back where it belongs if we don’t want it instead of putting it on the closest
shelf to us. Another action we can take is making a mandatory organization day
for ourselves. For example let’s say my organization day is Sunday. Then, every
Sunday, no matter how busy I am, I have to organize everything from little
scraps of paper to files on my computer. The last thing we can do is recognize
how easy and fun it can be to organize. If everyone follows these steps, then
we will never have to worry about the above situation and the countries that
fall in that situation can get out and be not chaotic.
